ZT 0707 | The Perfect Balance Between Big and Small Knives

December 14, 2021 by Erik Meisner Leave a Comment

0707

Blending the lines between a large and small pocket knife, the new 0707 from Zero Tolerance seems to find a perfect balance. It’s hard to believe that a folding pocket knife measuring 8.25″ fully extended can weigh in at a mere 2.3 ounces. I guess it’s possible when using such materials as carbon fiber and titanium to make up the handle and frame. Couple that with a full 3.5″ drop point blade and you have a super light, streamlined EDC knife. ZT is no stranger to this type of knife. I still carry their 0450CF on occasion which shares a few similarities but is much smaller. The 0707 features a full sized 4.5″ handle that fits my size 11 hands quite comfortably.

ZT0707 Video Review

Relying on the proven KVT ball bearing action, the ZT0707 already operates buttery smooth. But a new technology called the Tuned Detent System (TDS™) from ZT offers a further level of refinement. A tiny screw on the frame that’s used to adjust the ball bearing that fits in the detent. Allowing the engineers to fine tune the pressure between the bearing and detent for optimization. Not so tight that it makes opening this manual flipper a chore. Or too loose creating a blade that can dangerously flop out of the handle. But striking that perfect balance between the two.

Final Thoughts:

I’ve been carrying this little big EDC knife for awhile now and I have my opinions. The build quality and material are typical ZT…top notch. The large handle fits well in my hands providing a secure grip. The blade it ridiculously sharp and pointy right out of the box. Both nice attributes for something that’s supposed to be sharp and pointy. Maybe it’s my larger hand but the flipper seems a bit small to me. As does the pocket clip. Designed for deep carry, this small pocket clip does the job. It also has very little leverage to bend so it puts the clamp on your pocket. As long as you’re in no hurry to draw the knife from your pocket, you should be fine. I found it worked better in my small inner pocket on my 5.11 Defender Flex Pants.
