Wolf Pack | A First Aid Kit for Man’s Best Friend

July 30, 2024 by Timothy Gauthier Leave a Comment

For folks who have a K-9 friend, knowing how to apply K-9 first aid is a needed skill. Along with knowing K-9 first aid, having a dedicated first aid kit (FAK) for your furry friend is crucial. Uncharted Supply Co. took inspiration from an experience of dealing with an injured dog to create a dog-specific FAK to take with you on your dog as a collar. The result is the Wolf Pack.

 Wolf Pack Overview

The Wolf Pack functions as a dog collar with a built-in zippered pocket. The pocket is six and a half inches long and two inches wide. Inside the pocket are the components for the FAK. The FAK consists of gauze pads, nitrile gloves, precision forceps, poop bags, a bandage wrap, antiseptic wipes, hemostatic wipes, reusable zip ties, and a sheet of dog first aid instructions. I appreciated the addition of the zip ties to muzzle my dog to protect both her and me from any pain-induced aggression.

On the collar, to the left of the pocket, is a built-in retaining strap for any excess length of the collar. There is also a removable poop bag holder. A magnetic Fidlock V-Buckle secures the Wolf Pack. Before getting the Wolf Pack, I had never heard of Fidlock, and it was the first time I used the buckle, and I was impressed with it.

The magnetic buckle is easy to fasten and unfasten. Next to the V-Buckle is a V-metal ring that attaches a lead to control the dog. Finally, on the inside of the collar is hook-loop tape for sizing. One thing to note is that the large collar has a grab handle to help control the dog.

 Final Thoughts

The Wolf Pack fills a need for a dog FAK. It is easy to carry and holds vital items to care for Fido. I appreciate having first aid pieces ready for access during long walks or camping trips. Since the Wolf Pack is a collar that only weighs 8oz when filled, it does not weigh down my dog or cause unnecessary stress for her.

One point I would like to bring up that can cause issues is fine-tuning the collar’s size. I must unlock the Fidlock and readjust the hook loop tape to change the collar’s length. It is not a significant issue, but I like a streamlined method for fine-tuning the size without unbuckling the V-Buckle as a preference.

On the other hand, I like using the Fidblock buckle. As I have said before, this was the first time I dealt with a Fidlock buckle, and I like how easy it is to unbuckle and buckle the collar, thanks to the magnet. I also appreciate the components of the FAK, which covers both bleeding wounds and stings. For $89.00, the Wolf Pack brings peace of mind when on adventures with man’s best friend.
