When I was serving in the 2nd Ranger Battalion in the 90’s, we were issued a particularly unstylish but effective pair of ballistic sunglasses (pictured below). Not the “cool guy” Oakleys that have been in use by our soldiers for some time now. Oakley has really stepped up and poured tons of development money into the best solutions for our warriors. It’s a big reason I continue to support the company. The Standard Issue Ballistic M-Frame has been leading the way into battle and should be on your radar as your go-to shooting eye protection.
What’s Included:
Offered as a single pair of glasses or as a complete system, or array, the new M-Frame 3.0 can adapt to all conditions. In this video, I’ll be referencing the shooting specific Prizm lens array. Included in the ballistic case are 3 lenses, 1 frame, 1 soft bag, 1 anti fog & cloth and an elastic tether that clips into the frame keeping the glasses secured to your face. Among the lenses are a clear protective lens as well as a Tr22 and Tr45 Titanium Iridium lens for varying light conditions.
M-Frame Video Review:
“PRIZM™ lenses are specially engineered to provide greater richness in your visual experience so you can perform better. The benefits of this visionary technology are game changers. The revolutionary lens technology, grounded in decades of research and innovation, fine-tunes individual colors to enhance details for an optimized viewing experience. With ordinary sunglass lenses, the world looks dull and flat, but PRIZM™ lens technology makes everything look vivid and vibrant to reveal nuances that would normally be missed by the naked eye.” ~ oakleysi.com

Range Day
When I head out to the range here in Northern Michigan, the weather has a knack for shifting on me. I’ve shot in rain, snow, overcast and bright sunlight…all in one day! Having 3 interchangeable lenses would have been nice on that particular day. Knowing that the M-Frame 3.0 Shooting Array is always in my range bag is peace of mind that I’ll have whatever eye protection the current conditions dictate. My days of sitting in the door of a low flying Blackhawk helicopter are over but I’m sure I’ll find a use for the elastic retention band. Maybe mountain biking or skiing?
