What happens when you cross 130 year old knife American manufacturer Case Knives, with Winkler knives and SGM Kyle Lamb? You end up with the latest edition of the American Heros Knife Series. The Case X Winkler Kyle Lamb Hunter. That’s a bit of a mouthful but each collaborator involved in this unique hunting knife deserves their recognition.
A world class knife collaboration
Let’s start with Case Knives. Working out of Bradford, PA, Case Knives was founded by four brothers in 1889. Their knives have built a reputation for over 130 years as one of the most respected names in American cutlery. Master Bladesmith Daniel Winkler is best known for his contribution to the SOF community with his breaching/combat axe. Carried on the battlefield for the last few decades, Winkler Knives continues to support the assaulters down-range. And then there’s Sergeant Major (retired) Kyle Lamb. If you don’t know who this bad-ass is, his bio at the bottom of the article.
“Every day, a small piece of America’s heritage is carried around in the pockets of a nation. A small but solid reminder that anything worth doing is worth doing right. At Case, our knives are built by people with integrity for people of integrity. That’s the way we’ve done it for over a hundred years, and that’s how we’ll do it for the next hundred years to come.” ~caseknives.com
American Heros Knife Series
Case Knives decided to pay tribute to a few of our American Heroes and kicked off the American Heroes Knife Series. I just happened to be looking for a new hunting knife so I picked up the Kyle Lamb Hunter. A recent trip to Iowa proved to be the perfect time to put this awesome collaboration to work. Before lunchtime on opening day of Whitetail season, the Kyle Lamb Hunter had already effortlessly field dressed 3 of out 7 corn-fed bucks.
The spear point effectively pierced the abdomen of the animals while avoiding the organs inside. Allowing a smooth cut with the blade facing skyward up to the rib cage. A razor sharp edge on the thick 80CRV2 Steel blade proved to be the appropriate tool for breaking the pelvis open as well. Versus needing a hatchet or some sort of saw. Despite the Canvas Laminate handle being covered in blood, the light texture was sufficient enough to retain a solid purchase while processing the deer carcass.
Included with this 9.5″ fixed blade is a sturdy index sheath complete with Kyle Lamb’s “Viking Tactics” logo overlaid onto it. The sheath is lined with a suede like material that not only protects the blade but helps retain it as well. There is no mechanical retention other than friction but it ain’t coming out. The sheath captures the entire 5″ blade along with the first inch of the handle. Never budging while busting through the woolly underbrush of southwest Iowa. The back side of the sheath offers a metal belt clip that accommodates up to a 1.75″ belt. As well as a fixed slot that a 1.75″ belt can be passed through for a more secure mount.

Final Thoughts:
The Kyle Lamb Hunter is a very versatile and comfortable fixed blade to carry all day. The Kydex sheath has a really solid belt loop and it stayed tight against my body during active hunts. The retention is better than anticipated and takes a good tug to deploy. The blade steel is of high quality and holds a good edge for both delicate work and heavy chopping. Jimping on top and bottom of the blade allow multiple grip options and more control if needed. Although the price is nothing to scoff at, quality and versatility demand a premium in my opinion. Be sure to check out the entire American Heroes Series from Case Knives for more unique collaborations.
